President’s Report – Sherry Horeanopoulos

Contract updates

  • Must use Accrued Vacation before December 31st else one-time roll-over to Accrued Sick Time

Salem State Furlough

  • Negotiated memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the week of July 19-25.
  • MOA for requires employees to take two weeks of furlough proposal before December 31, 2020
  • Discussing the additional two (2) weeks for Fiscal Year 2021 in November.

Colleen Fitzpatrick (attending for C. Santiago):

  • Day of Action on August 19, 2020.
  • Higher Education Leadership Council (HELC) – Requesting of the MTA that there be more field representatives.

State-wide returning to work guidelines and tele-communting/tele-working policy.   Zoom account for APA:

  • Annual cost would be $299.00 for the Professional License.
  • Account to be maintained by the APA State-wide Treasurer.

Discussion about having a Retired APA Employee as a Board member (see Old/New Business).

  • 1369 Overall Membership since May 2020. An Increase of 7
  • 104 Non-Dues Paying Member. A decline of 5 since May 2020.

Updated Dues Structure from MTA for FY21:

  • Full-Time (AC1-100)
    • NEA: $200 (+ $4 from last year)
    • MTA: $500 (+$3 from last year)
    • APA: $85.70 (Same)
  • Part-Time (AC1-50)
    • NEA: $111.50 (+ $2 from last year)
    • MTA: $250 (+$1.50 from last year)
    • APA: $42.85 (Same)

  • Usage of website – 681 page views over the last month

Old/New Business

  • FAQ of the Month for the Website for September
  • Discussion regarding Retiree Membership for APA and have a Retiree Member on the APA Executive Board. Suggestion was made that these individuals must pay the MTA Retiree Dues and $1.00 APA Dues annually.
    • Motion: Move to create a membership category of Retired APA Member and consider creating an Executive Board Representative position within APA By-laws.

  • Create Ad-hoc APA By-laws Committee
    • M. Powers as Chair, S. Horeanopoulos, M. Storey, J.Decatur
    • Propose the following changes to the By-laws:
      • APA Retiree Membership Category
      • APA Retiree Representative on Executive Board
      • Allowing Chapter Vice Presidents to attend monthly meeting when Chapter President cannot attend.
      • Adding State-Wide Grievance Officer responsibilities to APA State-wide Vice President position
      • Adding Parliamentarian responsibilities to APA State-wide Secretary responsibilities.
  • MTA Field Staff currently in contract negotiations with MTA management and need the support of the APA.
  • Add to APA website – information pertaining to Employee Assistance Program.
